Grandpa Rock versus College Butt Rock

A friend and I recently got into a heated discussion on Twitter about the differences between our music tastes. His preferred musical tastes are what her refers to as "college rock." What this is, I am not too sure, although I've interrupted some awkward moments of his where he is rocking out to Asia's "Heat of the Moment."

One thing my friend is very clear on is what "college rock" isn't: it isn't the classic rock I love that he refers to as "Grandpa Rock." What he has against classics like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, I'll never know. Regardless, he seems to enjoy picking fights with me about music. Probably because he knows this an easy target for a music snob such as myself. I must say though, I've never met a grandpa cool enough to rock out to "Ramble On."

During our recent argument, it became clear we would never agree on musical preference. Totally his loss. I enjoy good college music myself, but I am not going to limit myself to just one genre of music. I'll take Asia's "Heat of the Moment," but I'm not going to shy away from Del Shannon's "Runaway," Emerson Hart's "If You're Gonna Leave," or Hall & Oates "Kiss on my List" either. Guess out of the two of us, I'm the more well rounded person. I would be lying if I said this surprised me.

Something we both agree on though: country music sucks.

You forgot that the band he was excited about touring this year, if famous for ripping off the Rolling Stones.
