If you have ever owned a cat, you know the rules. Your cat will tell you when its time to be fed, loved, nurtured, and when the litter box is getting ridiculous. I got Pippin (yes, I am a big Lord of the Rings Geek) when she was a kitten from the Humane Society. I remember distinctly when I picked her out (or did she pick me?) the employees telling me that while she was a recent addition to the Humane Society, she had quite a personality to her. I figured that would make us a good fit. As you can see from this picture, Pippin has quite the coloring to her, including: white paws and underbelly, "war paint" stripes on her face, and blue eyes. I call her my hodge-podge of cuteness.
Now that Pippin and I have had a year and a half to build our relationship, I realize very clearly that I she has me right where she wants me: wrapped around one of her little white paws. Having a cat has been great training for the day I am blessed with human babies of my own. Hopefully by then, I will at least be able to fake being in charge.

But my dear, didn't anyone ever tell you that you DO NOT OWN a cat; the cat owns you!!
Talk about them being the boss, a reminder story.
Remember Taipan and Mai Ling? Remember when - since they were Siamese cats - Taipan in particular would rawl, it sounded like a baby crying? Well, when we lived in our townhouse, Taipan would love to get onto the neighbor's roof and howl until I dragged a chair to the front door, stood up on it, and coaxed him to come down the roof over the front door to me.
This went on for weeks, and the neighbors either were happy to have me rescue him to keep him from howling, or laughing at me!!
Until the day the neighbor across the street - who had been a fireman - came running up to me to say: "Don't do that, they'll just keep it up. You will never see a cat's skeleton on a roof!!! They ALWAYS come down." So, the next time Taipan went up on the roof, I got in the car and drove away. When he saw me driving away and NOT running to rescue him, he became very indignant!!! When I returned 10 min later, there he was, off the roof, taking a bath at our front door. He never went on the neighbor's roof again!!!
