Those who know me are aware I'm a terrible sleeper. Once I'm asleep I'm fine, but it usually takes me hours to get there. I toss and turn, and can't get comfortable. Then the brain kicks in, and I start thinking of everything and nothing at the same time. During the week, I'm lucky to get 6 hours of sleep a night, which can make for a pleasant morning at work.
I've known for awhile that I needed a new mattress. The queen mattress I sleep on is one I've had for almost 20 years. Given it's age, it's held up pretty well (especially with the memory foam I added a few years back), but I knew it was starting to show it's age. The age, combined with the fact that Pippin destroyed the box spring when she was a kitten, I went out and bought a new bed today!
Thanks to being spoiled by a plush pillow top bed by my dad and step-mom at Christmas, I knew I wanted one of those, so I went out and did some comparative shopping. I found a bed I really liked, and the price was great! After thinking it over a bit, I bought the bed. Now I just have to wait for it to be delivered on Tuesday. I can't wait!

The things I miss because I work
Today I got to go hang out by the pool in my apartment complex for the first time this year. Hanging out by the pool on hot summer days is one of the few things I like about living in an apartment, so I try to make the most of it during the summer. Since I work all week (and some weekends, argh), I only make it out to the pool on weekends, and I consider this precious time my time. Consider the "Do Not Disturb" sign officially hung.
When I got to the pool today, there weren't many people around. Exactly what I love! Shortly thereafter, the pool began to get crowded with various people. Now, living in a college town, I unfortunately live near a lot of college students. What I didn't realize was just how many divorced women live here as well.
That's right, I said divorced women. I'm not sure when it happened, but all of a sudden, my apartment complex is full of divorced women and their children. Apparently Saturday is a day the kids spend with dad, so all these now single ladies congregate to the apartment complex pool to gossip.
As I was laying there, listening to my iPod, I watched as the First Wives Club of my apartment complex gathered around the pool. I decided to take off my iPod, and just sort of take in the environment. At one point, I looked over, and was astonished to see that my next door neighbor was there, and seemed to be the ringleader of this group!
It was rather amusing to listen in as these ladies gossiped about their lives, and the lives of others they knew. I was downright astonished to see that as my time by the pool progressed, more of these women would arrive, and they all seemed to know each other. Geez, the things I miss by being at work all day!

Long weekend, few plans
Evening everyone! As you can see, I'm playing around with the blog layout. Feel free to let me know what you think, or offer suggestions. No idea is a bad one. ;-)
So this weekend is Memorial Day. Usually I have plans to do something on this weekend - be it camping, going to the coast, or visiting family. This year, I have no real plans to do anything, and I must say, I'm a little excited for that. I really want to spend some time doing some things for me this weekend, and I also want to work my writing.
Yup, I said writing. One of the reasons I started this blog was to work on writing on a consistent basis. Why? Well, I really want to write a novel some day. Now don't get me wrong, I don't have any pretenses that I will write "the next great novel", but I do want to try my hand at writing something creative that will hopefully entertain as well as amuse. This weekend should provide me a perfect outlet for writing, and I hope that I take advantage of this opportunity.

Lazy Weekends
I was just looking back, and it seems I have been remiss this month in my blog postings. Not to fear, readers, I plan to rectify this mistake in April!
For the first time in weeks, I have very little planned for my weekend. What's more, I am feeling much better than I have in weeks, so I feel that I can really indulge in some much needed self-care. The few things I have on tap this weekend are:
1. Sleeping late
2. Eating a delicious breakfast at my favorite local diner
3. Reading
4. Watching a movie
5. Catching up with some friends
6. Snuggling my kitty
Ah, this is the life!
